The Let's End The New Year Right Sunday Roundup

Because it has been so long since I've done this, and as an amends for my lack of activity over the last few months, allow me to end the year and bid it good riddance with this collection of 100+ photos of actors, models, singers, Insta-exhibitionists, jokers, smokers, midnight tokers, and complete randos that I have stolen from their rightful places on the Internet to share with you here. As usual I claim no ownership over, knowledge of, or responsibility for anything in this post.  I admit to knowing the names that go to some of these faces, but mostly not. The Force is with me and I am one with The Force. Peace be with you and Happy 2018.

Lots more after the break.

Two Boys And A Question

I'm thinking about returning to regular posting in the New Year.  Would it be worth my time?

Something Important Is Happening On The Disney Channel

This is not going to be your usual post about hot guys with their shirts off. Instead, I'm going to talk to you about something that is happening on The Disney Channel. Something that you probably haven't heard about unless, like me, you are a (figurative) 12 year old girl.

This past spring the Disney Channel debuted a new show called Andi Mack, about a 13 year old girl, the titular Andi Mack, her 13 year old best friends, Buffy and Cyrus, and the the 13 year old boy, Jonah Beck, she has a crush on.  Also her Mother and her Grandmother.  Andi Mack made a ruckus right out of the gate in the first episode when Andi's cool older sister revealed that in fact she is Andi's cool young Mother, and that the people Andi grew up believing were her parents were really her grandparents.  Headlines hailed the "New Disney Show About Teen Pregnancy!"  Well, it isn't actually about teen pregnancy at all, but for The Disney Channel that was pretty hot stuff. And it gained attention for other reasons, the diversity of its cast, its generally progressive values, the fact that it seems to take place in a world that is something like the world we live in and not in the bizzaro fun-house mirror version of the world where most Disney/Nick shows occur, and its over-all lack of suckitude. Good things, which quickly propelled the show into quickly becaming the top-rated kids' show on American TV.  But I'm here to talk about something else.

I'm here to talk about Cyrus.

Cyrus Goodman, played with great charm by 15-year-old Joshua Rush, is one of Andi's two best friends. He is unathletic ("I'm more of a wheezer."), a tater tot aficionado, and all of  his friends are girls. Merry-Go-Rounds make him puke. He attributes his own nervousness to the fact that his parents, both psychiatrists, divorced and remarried other psychiatrists, and therefore he is "being raised by four mental health professionals."

Before I go on, though, I have to mention Jonah Beck, who (outwardly at least) is everything that Cyrus is not. He's is athletic, confident, popular, and is dating a high school girl- the toxic Amber, who we aren't going to talk about. Jonah is played with great charm and great dimples by 14-year old Asher Angel, and yes that seems to be his real name.  Do you remember that I said that Andi has a crush on Jonah Beck? Yeah, she's not the only one. Because you would have to be intentionally obtuse to not see that Cyrus is 100% percent in love with Jonah.

And in tonight's episode,  Cyrus puts it into actual words.  He has "a crush" on Noah Beck. And that is everything.  Because this is the Disney Channel, y'all, a channel for kids.  And there are people who will say that there is a bunch of gay representation on TV now, so why is this important?  After all, there have even been gay teens on TV shows,  going back to the 1990s. True. But this is a a show for kids, aimed right at the very people who need it the most.  And take it from someone who grew up when there was no positive representation for queer kids:  this makes a difference.  This will save lives.

I can promise you, I've already seen it,  that the forces of hate,  the people who start their sentences with "I'm not a homophobe, but..." are losing their shit and forming their circles.  I hope that the Disney Channel can see that it is in their corporate interest to ignore the bigotry of the angry minority and to embrace a future where all people are loved and accepted. And to the people who created Andi Mack, and Cyrus and Jonah, thank you. You can't be thanked enough.

Now Streaming On My TV

None of the English language sites that discuss and stream South Korean television shows can decide what to call  최고의 한방. Choices include: The Best HitHit The Top, The Big Blow,  several others.  Everybody agrees, however, that the 20-year-old beauty pictured above is 김민재, a name which anglicizes into Kim Min Jae. I approve.

What's Going On Here?

This photo I posted of model Kline Barfield has gotten almost 1500 notes on Tumblr. On an extraordinary day I'll get three comments on Blogger.
I'm going to be honest, for the past year or so it has been very difficult for me to work up much enthusiasm toward running this blog. The effort to reward ratio has been very low. Readership numbers are low. Feedback, aside from a small number of devoted readers (you know who you are), is practically non-existent.  The tiny amount of financial reward I used to get from running ads has disappeared. Mostly, Blogger used to seem like a community to me, and now it seems more like shouting into the void.  In contrast, a Tumblr page that I devote almost no effort to has thousands of followers, and immediate feedback from people hitting the "like" button.

So the question is, will I continue to post to this blog? Well, probably. It's hard for me to give up on something that has been a part of my life for almost ten years. But, also, as you can see from my recent posting history, it's pretty easy to just not post, Put it this way: If it's a choice between working on my blog and an evening of Netflix and Postmates, Netflix and Postmates will almost always win.

The Lad's A Dad

Nobody blinked an eye last year when Lucky Blue Smith, who was still 18 years old, and his 26-year-old girlfriend, Stormi Brie,  announced that they were expecting their first child together. They seemed happy about it, the press covered it as joyous news, and Lucky Blue went back to living his life as usual, touring with his family band, modeling, and going to the beach.  The couple's social media feeds became so divorced from each other that people were openly speculating that they had cut ties, and certain outrage junkies, armed with no information what-so-ever, tried to publically shame the 18-year-old for abandoning the 26-year-old. Yesterday the child was born, a girl they have named Gravity Blue Smith, because of course they did.

Thirst Traps For Beginners

If you don't know who Caleb Burton is, join the club.  He is one of those completely unremarkable-seeming boys that somehow comes out of nowhere and makes a respectable splash in social media.  In this case the 17-year-old's growing cachet seems to be rooted in the fact that he is friends with mega-successful 19-year-old "influencer" (ugh) Brent Rivera, who had eight million Vine subscribers, and now has over five million Instagram followers and nearly three million Youtube subscribers. Caleb's numbers aren't nearly as impressive, but he has about a hundred and sixty-three thousand more Instagram followers than I do, and that ain't nothing.  In Brett's Instagram videos, Caleb seems gangly, and goofy-cute, not what I'd call sexy,  but he seems to have learned an important lesson from Brett: It's good to be funny, but if you really want to rope in the subscribers you have to steam it up on occasion.  If that means being photographed in the shower (in your underwear, because don't everyone?) so be it.

If you want to know how Brent does it, see below. Oh, guess what? Same shower.

Happy 4th of July to those who celebrate, and even to those who don't .  To be honest, I don't think there's anything particularly patriotic about wrapping yourself in an American flag (patriotism being the most misused word in the English language) but sometimes the cutest boys do it.

Meet Oliver

I've been telling all my friends, and I think you should know, that this fellow, 17-year-old Oliver Sonne from Denmark, is about to be my new obsession. He has just signed at the whimsically named London agency The Unsigned Group, and hasn't had any real jobs yet, but it's only a matter of time. Before he was a model he starred as a 15-year-old soccer player in a Danish TV series, so maybe we'll even get to see him as an actor someday.
